πŸ“– In Depth

Mt. Fuji is more than a climb

At 3,776 m, Mt. Fuji is Japan's highest peak, inscribed in 2013 as a sacred place and source of artistic inspiration. Summer (early July–early September) is the climbing season, but first-timers also love the views from the Fuji Five Lakes and the pagoda-and-blossoms scene at Arakurayama Sengen Park.

Climbing safely and avoiding bullet climbs

If you climb, book a mountain hut and bring warm and rain gear and a headlamp. Overnight "bullet" climbs without sleep raise the risk of altitude sickness and accidents and are discouraged. Use the shuttle bus during private-car restriction periods.

❓ FAQ

When is the climbing season?

Usually early July to early September. Outside it, huts close and it is dangerous β€” avoid general climbing.

Is it worth visiting without climbing?

Yes β€” Fuji-view sightseeing around Lake Kawaguchi and Arakurayama is very popular.

Can I drive to the 5th Station?

Private cars are restricted in climbing season; transfer to a shuttle bus.
