Miyajima rewards you twice with the tides

Itsukushima Shrine is said to date back to the Asuka period and was given its grand current form by Taira no Kiyomori. The great torii floats at high tide and can be reached on foot at low tide โ€” check a tide table to catch both.

Add Mt. Misen and the street food

With time, take the Mt. Misen ropeway for sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea. Along the approach, enjoy grilled oysters, anago-meshi and fried momiji, and pick up a rice scoop or momiji manju as souvenirs.
