Search hotels (replace link)Itsukushima Shrine is said to date back to the Asuka period and was given its grand current form by Taira no Kiyomori. The great torii floats at high tide and can be reached on foot at low tide โ check a tide table to catch both.
With time, take the Mt. Misen ropeway for sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea. Along the approach, enjoy grilled oysters, anago-meshi and fried momiji, and pick up a rice scoop or momiji manju as souvenirs.
At high tide it floats; at low tide you can walk up to it. Check a tide table in advance.
Generally no โ park at Miyajimaguchi on the mainland and take the ferry.
